This Streak of Lightning (often referred to as Roman Stripe) was ordered by Brenda Monroe of Ann Arbor, Michigan as a throw for the family’s living room. At 64” x 76” the whole family, whose names are quilted into the inner border, could snuggle under it. Brenda was so pleased she wanted to hang the quilt on the wall.

This queen-size bed quilt was commissioned by Gordon and Paul Harper of Waterdown as a 2009 Christmas gift for their parents, Joan and Jonathan. Blue and green with a suggestion of orange was the requested palette, and the centre of each of the sixteen Ohio Star blocks represents a particular interest of one of the family members or depicts an aspect of the family’s life together. The detail block on the right reflects the Harper’s enjoyment of reading the Harry Potter series of books together. The blue green squares in this block were made from one of Joan’s old jackets thereby enhancing the sentimental value of the quilt.

This beautiful quilt was commissioned by Kathy and Ben Dahlback of Aurora as gift for family friends following the birth of their daughter, Alexis. Our instructions were that the parents did not like pastel colours and would like something with a “Lion King” theme. Weaving together several authentic African fabrics, animal prints and some really cool material resulted in this 42” x 62” stunner. You can almost hear the drums beating! Click on the detail picture on the right and you can see Alexis’ full name and date-of-birth quilted with copper metallic thread in the turquoise/fuchsia stripe. The family was thrilled with the result.

One of our favourites for so many reasons. . . the family was so touched by this quilt that they ordered another one, but, this time for a boy. Yikes! Click Nathan.jpg to see the results of this new challenge.

This custom-designed Grandmother’s Fan was ordered on behalf of the family by Carrie Westbrook as a gift to Dianne on the occasion of her 60th birthday. Pictures of all Dianne’s Grandchildren and important family photos were printed on fabric and sewn into nine-patch variation blocks, which alternate with the Grandmother’s fan blocks.
